Queen Carnival

The first provincial Queen Carnival in New Zealand was held in Dunedin on 27 August 1915. The next year it was held in Auckland on Queens Wharf. During the 1900s period Australia had its own Queen Carnivals in various towns and cities around the country. The Queen Carnival tradition has been carried to other countries, including Fiji and Malta.

The carnivals include elements of Talent shows, Fancy dress, Sport and the sale of local produce.

Initially the Queen Carnival was organised to raise funds for the wounded soldiers returning from World War I.[1]

During the inter war period Queen Carnivals were held to raise fund for worthy community causes. Often funding sporting facilities or community buildings and services.
